Africa is a continent of over 1 billion people, speaking more than 1000 languages and crammed with inspirational people, successful entrepreneurship and bloody good fashion and music influencing as standard.
Last week, we asked you to give us your favourite facts and statistics about the great continent. As always you gave us the best you had making it hard for us to whittle them down. Thank you to everyone who submitted a fact or a statistic. Here are our favourite 15:
1.Africa accounts for 14% of the worlds population.
2.South Africa is ranked in top 5 countries globally for tourism growth. Three times the global average.
3.One of the world's first and oldest universities is in Timbuktu.
4.There are more films made in Nigeria’s Nollywood than Hollywood churning out over 200 a month.
5.African economies are amongst the fastest growing in the world with 6 of the 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa.
6.Sub-Saharan Africas annual GDP growth averaged 5.7% between 2000 & 2010
7.Malawi women’s netball team are ranked 5th in the world.
